Optional stop 1
Morris & the I&M Canal
Stretch your legs beside the canal or pause in downtown Morris. Pick a short walk so you still have time to settle into your overnight stay.

A little drive.
A whole different weekend.
An easy rural road trip from Chicago, with one good stop on the way and two nights at your chosen countryside stay.
Choose your overnight stay
Your route. Your pace.
Chicago and the south or southwest suburbs can pair a westbound trip with Morris or Ottawa. From the western suburbs, North Shore, or northwest suburbs, compare your direct route first: a canal stop may add a detour.
Open both maps for current driving times and added detour time. Replace the city starting point with your address and set your departure time. Map estimates exclude your time visiting each stop. Confirm your accommodation’s arrival instructions.
Good reasons to pull over.
Optional stop 2
Ottawa
Make Ottawa your food-and-town stop. Explore the downtown murals, then continue west toward your overnight stay.

Matthiessen State Park
Choose a canyon walk instead of a town stop. Allow time for parking and the trail; check current conditions before leaving.

Your last stop: pizza. Order ahead from my friends at Sticks and Bricks Wood-fired Pizza in Tiskilwa, just two miles from the farm. Swing by for pickup along your route and arrive with dinner ready. Check their current hours and ordering details first.
